provencal kitchen

Kitchen 1

The real deal - this kitchen in Provence oozes the French Country charm and ambience that makes this style so popular.

It is definitely the heart and hub of the home.

You can tell the owner of this French Country kitchen absolutely loves cooking and entertaining in true French style.

Notice the organized groupings of the various contents around the cooking area, and especially in the dresser around the window. As the French Country kitchen is rather busy, it is important to keep it organised.

The two cockerels, framed pictures, bird cages, old keys, dried herbs and bunch of bright yellow sunflowers complete the final touches of French Country Kitchen decor.

This window seat certainly encourages family and friends to keep the cook company whilst busy in the kitchen. Notice too the chicken wire covered doors of the armoire. The top section of this armoire is actually designed for the shelves to slide out and top section to become a bird cage if so desired.

If looking for a good source and reference book I can recommend 'French Country Kitchens' by Linda Dannenberg. Whether you are a true Francophile or just wanting a little authentic French Country inspiration, this book will walk you through true French kitchens from various regions in France. What I like about the book is that you will find the thought process behind the designs, with an in depth study of the style elements, including color palettes and collectibles to help give you ideas on how to turn your own kitchen into a warm and functional space in the spirit of French Country. A nice personal touch is a French recipe from the owner of each kitchen featured.
